Hello everyone
I'm really sorry to have to let you know that Cragfest 2012 has been
cancelled.
The spectacular venue is the site of the Kilnsey Agricultural Show, which
has run for 100 years or so and CRAGFEST is the only other major event to be held
here. Unfortunately we are a victim of the appallingly cold, wet weather, the show
field is a large expanse of flat land beside the swollen river Wharfe and it's just
not draining.
Whilst March was wonderful it hasn't stopped raining since and the showfield
is becoming waterlogged. The area by the main stage has standing water, it's raining
now and is forecast to rain this weekend and through the Cragfest weekend.
With 3000
people due on the site, we cannot endanger the condition of the showfield and the
historic ring and racetrack, so after consulting with the owners we are faced with
no alternative but to cancel the event.
It's a great loss for everyone concerned,
the show's organisers, the volunteers who worked alongside them to stage the event
and for the fans and artists we were all looking forward to seeing. It's also a great
loss for the local area, which will miss out on thousands of new visitors.
We fully
intend to stage the event next year and hope that some semblance of "normal" weather
ensues and allows the proceedings to go ahead.
Please don't hesitate to contact us
if you have any questions or need any advice.
With regards
CRAGFEST
